Jasper - feeding, strollers

Jasper is still refusing rice and congee. I went as far as buying commercial congee from the restaurant or chinese cafe but when i tried to feed him he would stick his tongue out and scratch/scrape the bits of rice out from his tongue with his fingers(then smear it on his hair etc!). A friend of mine had suggested making a rice dough or rice pudding but it didn't work. (I tried ice-cream with rice - didnt work!) On the other hand I have just discovered he loves noodle and long spaghetti. I can easily feed him a swirl of noodle or spaghetti on a mini-fork and he takes to it and slurps in whatever hang out of his mouth even when it is down to his chin. I have managed to change his feeding schedule to 4 feeds a day just like most of my other mummy friends:

7:30am - 220ml breast milk and/or formula
11:30am - solids followed by 220ml formula
3:30pm - 220ml formula
7:30pm-8:30pm approx - solids followed by 220ml formula
My plan will be to gradually replace milk with more solids, thats if he is willing to chew and eat.

Talking about strollers, I have used and owned 3 strollers so far. My first stroller Bruin was given to me a gift and it weighted too much over 12kgs and it gave me too much back pain pushing it uphill or downhill, also, it took more than 5 mins to fold it and I could barely lift it into my car boot. So I bought a new Graco CitiSport, it was ok as my baby can lie flat or sit upright and it is relatively light only 6.5kgs. Until recently I notice the Graco is not wide enough for Jasper and it lacks leg support and almost hitting the canopy(not the glass roof!phew!) - he looks very squeezed in this Graco(will post a picture up later). So I went to buy a Combi 5.8kg stroller with a reversible handle - Jasper sleeps very comfortably in there but I can't steer this thing up or down the escalator at all or i'd lose my balance, my comment for this Combi is: fragile very unstable I feel as though the handle may snap any time. I will try to hunt for an umbrella style *layback* stroller in the next days/weeks, most likely an European or Australian made one that is designed for big kid - I won't go as far as Maclaren, most likely Volante-PocoAPoco or Love'n'care. I have tried Jasper on a few strollers in the shops but he looks like just fit snuggly in the stroller with no room to move(or grow) and he is not even one(1) yet, I guess I'll need a relatively long umbrella style..... so much for strollers today...

guess who is inside the play tunnel

i have just picked up the play tunnel from teh post office this morning. It was a toy offer from Huggies nappies as i collected enough barcodes to exchange for this. At first he didnt understand it and I had to push him through the tunnel and pat his bottom "off you go". He is now shrieking with joy crawling in and out the tunnel non-stop, occasionally bring toys into the tunnel or sitting inside the tunnel chewing his toy, he also claps his hands and hums a tune while sitting inside the tunnel. We have played peek-a-boo and he loves it. This play tunnel is extremely light weight and is collapsible it comes with its own carry bag.

As he is approaching one, i am trying to sell out my stroller pram and go for a light weight umbrella stroller instead.

mini slide

I bought a mini slide from toys'r'us for him early last week. I have seen him crawling up and down the slide from either direction. He did a sommersault accidently after he climbed over the top of hte slide.

Think pink

I went with Jasper's godmother to some baby stores trying out some umbrella strollers, came across this bright pink stroller and thought it would be good fun to try him on and take a picture.

Still a crawler.

Picture taken near the water just opposite to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera house:

Jasper weighs in at 10.8kgs, 75cm tall, head circumference 48cm. He has 6 teeth! The health nurse says everything is normal except i am not too happy with his feeding. He seems to like cheese, bread and biscuits only and when offering him rice or congee he would stick his tongue out and try to scratch all the rice bit out of his mouth. I have tried various consistency of congee or rice but he doesnt seem to like it (I even tried those bought from a chinese restaurant!). He is now having 3 milk feeds a day vary between 110ml(EBM) and 410ml(formula) per feed. He is still a crawler (a very fast crawler) even though he can walk and stand assisted, he just loves crawling maybe he hasn't grown out of the crawling stage yet. He doesnt seem to have any stranger shyness and never cling to his parents, wherever we land him on the ground/floor he would shoot off like a bullet - we have to "run" after this crawling baby. He loves climbing onto the sofa and into toy chests etc. Friends told me their babies crawled and stood alone for many months before walking unassisted. He is still teething a lot. My in-laws will be going overseas for 6 months and have asked for copies of baby photos for giving away to their relatives, its not easy sorting out so many pics and it costs 0.29 per 4"x6" digital photo and I have printed a few hundreds in total.
