counting in mandarin, reciting the multiplication table

RE: counting in mandarin, reciting the multiplication table

Jasper was counting in mandarin 31, 32, 33... etc and I was quite surprised as I have never taught him any mandarin (cos I don't speak it), then I asked my daycare place and they reckoned maybe it was during a casual game they played he managed to memorise the words.

Then I read the multiplication table to him in Cantonese, it was really just a short play while we were having our afternoon tea in the shopping mall. The next day, when I said "2 x 1 = 2", waited half a second, he then said "2 x 2 = 4", then I went "2 x 3 = 6", he went "2 x 4 = 8". Thats as far as he goes at the moment. I doubt he understands the concept but he certainly has very good ascoutic memory.

At the music class we are going to to, Jasper is the only kid who greets the teacher "hello Yvette" and says "bye bye Yvette" at the end of the class, I didn't prompt him to say it. Yvette certainly melted when she heard it. Its a 2-6 years class, the other kids aren't aware of the teacher's name.

He is quite cute, he also learns to say "oh dear !" and "I don't know"...and seems to use it quite extensively.

Rice

He is feeding ok tonight, didn't complain about the seat. We offered him some rice, chicken and bak choi for dinner. He is also able to wash his hands himself, ie rubs his hands under the running tap. He will tidy up his shoes and put them in the shoe cabinet, or he will fetch his shoes when asked to. He can climb up and self-sit in the stroller all by himself now, I only need to buckle him up when he is seated. I now use a Peg Perego Pliko P3 stroller, i reckon it is the best light-weight stroller for me, it is so easy to steer they have the best swivel wheels with suspension. Most importantly it will accomodate a toddler up to 20kgs... and it fits into the back of my car, can be folded and lifted without bending my back.

sitting down

For a few days in a row he has refused to sit on the booster seat. We tried to push him in the seat but it is just so hard, he struggled like a man! He climbed up the adult chair and sat there for a little while to eat and then climbed down the floor again. He wants to sit like us, not in the booster seat strapped in. Not sure what to do with him now... the closest thing that i can think of is the Hauck Alpha III High Chair, its like a wooden chair, the seat and foot rest is fully adjustable.

overconfident

At the Baptist Church playgroup yesterday: After the singing session we all left the activity room, as he was walking down the stairs he suddenly fell and rolled down the stairs like doing sommersault. I was a little shocked but he managed his fall quite well, he landed hands first on the steps then placed his feet on a few steps down, followed by hands again... the lady who are further down the stairs stopped him. It all happened very quickly. He didn't cry just held on to me very tight. Well at least maybe he will learn to hold on to the handrail or hold my hand when walking downstairs. The two-year-olds are often too confident and want to do things themselves to claim their independence.
